Description:

The $102.1 million grant will allow the creation of high-speed internet connections in all 75 counties in the state and in 135 communities. Additionally, connections will be made or upgraded to 81 hospitals, all two-year colleges, eight public libraries and a variety of public health institutions. The network will utilize existing fiber connectivity through lease agreements. Additionally, it will allow the installation of another 379 miles of fiber network.

As part of the grant, project partners must contribution a 20.6 percent matching rate. When including matching funds, the total amount made available through the BTOP program will be $128 million.

Project spending will include:
- $28 million to construct fiber optic connections with community colleges
- $22 million for telemedicine equipment for hospitals, clinics and homehealth sites
- $5 million for network equipment for community colleges
- $23 million for network infrastructure
