  • NSLP Equipment Assistance Grants (107 projects)
    The Arkansas Department of Education received funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to assist in the purchase of equipment for School Food Authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) through a competitive grant process. Priority was given to SFAs for equipment for schools in which at least 50 percent of the students were eligible for free or reduced-priced meals. Other focus areas of the grant included: improving the quality of school foodservice meals to meet the dietary guidelines; improving the safety of food served in the school meal programs; improving the overall energy efficiency of the school foodservice operations; and supporting the expansion of participation in the school meal program.
  • Grants to States for Education of Children with Disabilities (266 projects)
    Assist States in providing special education and related services to children with disabilities in accordance with Part B of the IDEA.
  • Preschool Grants for Children with Disabilities (34 projects)
    Assist States to make available special education and related services for children with disabilities age 3 through 5 years, and at a State's discretion, to 2 year old children with disabilities who will reach age three during the school year.

  • Title II, Part D -- Enhancing Education Through Technology (28 projects)
    The primary goal of this program is to improve teaching and student achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools. Additional goals include helping all students become technologically literate by the end of the eighth grade and, through the integration of technology with both teacher training and curriculum development, establishing innovative, research-based instructional methods that can be widely implemented...ARKANSAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS activities include the support of continuing, sustained professional development programs and public-private partnerships. Activities also include: the use of new or existing technologies to improve academic achievement; the acquisition of curricula that integrate technology and are designed to meet challenging state academic standards; the use of technology to increase parent involvement in schools; and the use of technology to collect, manage, and analyze data to enhance teaching and school improvement.
  • Education for Homeless Children and Youth (14 projects)
    Ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as other children and youth.

  • Title I, Part A - Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education Agencies (348 projects)
    Improve teaching and learning for students most at risk of failing to meet State academic achievement standards.
  • State Fiscal Stabilization Fund - Education Grants (310 projects)
    Congress designed the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund to prevent reductions in critical education and other services. The Recovery Act divides that funding into three parts: (1) $48.6 billion for basic stabilization funds; (2) $4.35 billion for State incentive grants; and (3) $650 million for local education agency innovation grants. Governors must divide their state's allocation of the fund total between education (81.8%) and other government services, which can include education (18.2%). The designated education allocation must first be used to restore support for K-12 and post secondary education to the greater of the (state) FY 08 or FY09 level. The Governor may use the remaining 18.2% of funding for public safety and other government services, which may include education assistance and modernization, renovation, and repair of education buildings.
  • Education Jobs Bill (Ed Jobs) (253 projects)
    The purpose of the Education Jobs Fund is to provide assistance to States to save or create education jobs for the 2010-2011 school year. Jobs funded under this program include those that provide educational and related services for early childhood, elementary, and secondary education. Districts are expected to use these funds for salaries, benefits, and bonuses...Support the salaries and benefits of current teachers and staff that provide the daily educational and related services to the students of Arkansas public schools and to provide additional support of programs dedicated to student achievement..50% of those funds may have been expended on creating or retaining jobs. Funds not spent to create/retain jobs were used as a one-time bonus..these..funds are being used to provide additional income to teachers, which could improve teacher retention.
