Boosting Education in Texarkana

A recent Texarkana Gazette article examined how stimulus funds gave a boost to education in Texarkana. Below are a few excerpts from the article.

-Funding for pre-K through high school accounted for nearly a third of all stimulus spending in the region. The money trickled down to all area school districts, ranging from $100,933 for Avinger Independent School District in Cass County to $8.6 million for Texarkana, Ark., School District.

-Much of the stimulus funding was designated for specific uses, like extending support for homeless students or bolstering school lunch programs. Other portions could be used with more flexibility, such as paying for installing surveillance cameras in classrooms and establishing a parent center at the elementary.
