Housing & Labor Safety & Community![]() SafetyThe DFA - Office of Intergovernmental Services (IGS) is responsible for the administration of the Byrne/JAG Program that allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system. State participants include the cities and counties, judicial districts and prosecutors. Funding for this program received a dramatic decrease in Fiscal Year 2008. Click on a recovery program below to view the details CommunityThe Arkansas Economic Development Commission is responsible for administration of the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG). This program was authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 (42 U.S.C. 5301) to assist low and moderate-income families, for the prevention and elimination of slums or blight, and to address other urgent community development needs. Eligible activities under the CDBG program include the construction of water and wastewater systems, childcare facilities, senior citizen centers, public health facilities and multi-purpose community centers. In addition, funds are provided for fire protection improvements and for economic development pursuits whose primary focus is the creation of jobs for low and moderate-income families. The Stimulus Act distributes these funds according to the 2008 funding formula. Grantees will not be required to submit an additional action plan to HUD for these funds.
